The Allen Community College women’s soccer team picked up its newest recruit Tuesday afternoon when coach Jeremy McGinnis signed center back Alyssa Hosey.
Hosey, a 17-year-old senior from Catoosa, Okla., will join a Lady Red Devils squad that finished the 2015 season 9-10 overall and 5-6 within the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
McGinnis had his team in the playoffs once again, but Allen was knocked out by Johnson County Community College in the first round.
With the addition of Hosey to the Lady Red Devils’ defense, McGinnis hopes Allen will be able to advance further in the 2016 season.
Hosey said she chose Allen because Iola reminds of her her own small hometown.
She was also encouraged by the Lady Red Devils’ constant progression under the direction of McGinnis.
“Every year that (McGinnis) has been here, it’s gotten better,” Hosey said.
The senior center back was a constant for Catoosa High and her competitive team, but she suffered several setbacks due to injuries.
In back-to-back-to-back years, Hosey injured her knees, which left her wondering if a school was willing to take a chance on her.
“I was kind of getting worried that I wasn’t going to get anywhere,” Hosey said. “And then (McGinnis) emailed me and it was the perfect fit.”
Hosey will have surgery for her latest knee injury — an ACL tear — on Jan. 20.
But the Lady Red Devils’ newest addition said she is confident the rehab will only keep her out until July. With Allen kicking off its 2016 campaign in late August, Hosey should be healthy enough for the team’s first game.
